CARE GUIDE
General Care
We offer a complimentary professional Clean & Inspection service valid for the lifetime of your ORBIT custom-made piece. To maintain your pieces in between visits, you may choose to clean them by submerging them into a solution of warm water and detergent-free dish soap. Taking a soft toothbrush to intricate setting areas and precious stones will relieve dirt build up from your jewellery, keeping stones and settings safe. If you notice your pieces are showing signs of wear, please get in touch to have them inspected and cleaned as a complimentary service and to discuss the maintenance services available to you.
It is vital to avoid impact damage to your ORBIT pieces to prevent scratches, dents, loss of stones and chips to precious stones & diamonds. By removing jewellery prior to performing manual tasks (household duties, gardening, high contact sports, activities at the gym, manual labour), the risk of your pieces sustaining impact damage is minimised.
Diamond Care
Diamonds are one of the hardest substances known to man. This fact leads to the assumption diamonds are indestructible. The truth is, with enough force, the structure of a diamond can be impacted, resulting in fractures or chips. This can even happen to the most securely set diamond. A Diamond or Gemstone Ring can be damaged by everyday activities so treat your jewellery gently and be sure to remove it for any activities that could cause damage. By protecting your diamonds from impact, you will preserve the condition of your diamonds. Should your diamonds sustain impact damage, you should consult us immediately for our specialist advice.
Cleaning Rings
We recommend having your diamond ring professionally cleaned and inspected once every six months or if it undergoes some form of trauma, such as being dropped or hit against a hard surface. Hint: Beware the dumbbells in the gym! These inspections help prevent the loss of your diamond in the event your ring has been inadvertently damaged. Orbit Jewellery offers this service free of charge to our customers.
Inspections
Your jewellery is designed to be worn and enjoyed. The rigours of everyday life can place strain on settings and other areas of your jewellery. Inspections play an important part in the overall maintenance of your jewellery and help avoid costly incidents such as stones falling out of your piece. During an inspection, we assess that all stones are securely set and in optimum condition. As this service is complimentary with every custom-made jewellery purchase, we invite you for an inspection at least every 6 – 12 months.
Precious Gem Stones Care
ORBIT pieces containing coloured stones may be cleaned in warm water and soap with a soft brush. With gentle care, your gemstone pieces will last a lifetime. Remember to remove your jewellery before working with any household chemicals like hairspray or cleaners. We also recomment to not wear jewellery, especially whitegold, in swimming & spa pools as they can damage the metal. Certain gem stones (such as amethyst, kunzite, topaz, morganite, aquamarine.) change colour over time when exposed to high levels of light. The sun’s harmful rays can affect a coloured gemstone’s durability and colour. Coloured gemstones occur in a range of colours and are comprised of various materials that determine their structural integrity. Compared with diamonds, coloured gem stones are typically softer and more brittle and therefore should be protected from impact that can result in damage. For security, regularly have the prongs in your setting checked to ensure they are still safely holding your gems.
Pearl Care
The first rule of pearls is that they should be the last thing you put on and the first thing you take off. Their luster can be dulled by hairspray, lotion and perfume. Best practice is to wear them often and your body’s natural oils will keep them lustrous. Before putting them away, wipe your pearls with a soft cloth, and store them separately to keep them from being scratched. As a general rule, we advise that pearl rings are not supposed to be worn everyday, because pearls are quite soft and can get easily scratched.
